Etihad Airways Pet Travel Policy
Traveling with a pet is definitely not an easy task, but Etihad Airways does its best to make the journey hassle-free for you and your beloved pets. It could be a trained service animal, a falcon, a cat, or even a dog—here is everything that you shall need to make sure a hassle-free experience while flying with Etihad Airways.
Documentations Required
All documents must be in order before flying. You are required to email all documents prior to your flight and carry the originals with you for checking at the airport. Your pet will not be permitted to travel without these.

How to Book
A few things that you need to do, for booking your furry Buddy's travel are:
- Fill out a Booking Form. This must be done at least seven days prior.
- Send all other documents via email no later than 72 hours prior to your flight.
- If you are flying to Abu Dhabi bound, you need to secure a release permit for your pet and accomplish a UAE Health Certificate, which contains the signature and stamp of government-accredited health officials in the country of origin and is issued five days prior to your date of flying. This needs to be presented at the airport; otherwise, your pet will not be allowed to fly.
Local Government Health Certificates
If you are flying to Abu Dhabi from any of the below countries, you can present a local Government Health Certificate. This certificate also must mandatorily be signed and stamped by a government accredited health official within five days prior to your flight:
- Australia
- Canada
- Cyprus
- Denmark
- Morocco
- New Zealand
- Netherlands
- Saudi Arabia
- Serbia
- South Africa
- Spain
- Turkey
- United Kingdom
- United States of America
Rules for Traveling with Pets
Etihad Airways allows carrying your cat or dog in the aircraft cabin when flying to and from Abu Dhabi. Pets are only permitted in the Economy and Business class sections. For any other destinations, please contact the relevant country authorities.
All other pets should be sent as manifested cargo with Etihad Cargo.
Booking Details
- Direct Booking: This service is only available when you book directly with Etihad and only on Etihad-operated flights. Your ticket number will start with 607.
- Economy Class: Your pet has to remain inside its carrier during the whole trip under your seat or on the adjacent seat.
- Business Class: Your pet must remain inside its carrier on the adjacent seat. They are not allowed under your seat.
- Carrier Dimensions: Carriers should not be larger than 40 x 40 x 22 cm to travel under the seat or 50 x 43 x 50 cm if you have booked an adjoining seat.
Other Requirements
- Your cat or dog should not be younger than 16 weeks old. Besides, pets with their carriers should not weigh more than 8 kg.
- You have to be at least 18 years old to be able to travel with your pet.
- You cannot sit in an exit row or on a bulkhead seat.
- A relief area for pets is available at Zayed International Airport, near the toilets at the beginning of Pier C.

Fees
The fee for traveling with your cat or dog in Economy is USD 1,500 or 215,000 Etihad Guest Miles one way. If you are transiting, the combined fee will apply.
- Economy class with adjacent seat: The cost of an adjacent seat for carrying a pet in economy class is the same as for an additional seat, plus $1,500 one way.
- Business Class: As there is no space under the seat, an extra seat needs to be purchased for your pet at a cost of $1,500 each way.
You need to call the airline if you wish to pay by Etihad Guest Miles for this service.
Travel Checklist
Before flying with your pet, just make sure you've done all the following:
- Checked entry and exit regulations for all countries of destination and origin
- Prepared all official documents, vet examinations, and treatments for your pet
- Gained approval to travel from Etihad Airways
- Filled in a booking form at least seven days prior to departure
- Consulted your vet about any medication that may be required during the journey.
- Get your pet used to their travel bag or kennel.
- Provided a lead and suitable harness or collar.
- Packed dry pet food in an airtight container within your cabin baggage. Wet food may be accepted, but this is subject to local regulations.
- Brought along all originals of documents to be checked by an airport vet at destination.
Important Information
Pet Carriers
Your pet carrier will have to fit under the seat in front of you, and it must always be carried on board. Your pet should be able to stand up, sit, turn around, and lie down comfortably. The carrier cannot be larger than the following dimensions:
- 40 x 40 x 22 cm so that it can easily fit under your seat, or 50 x 43 x 50 cm in case an adjacent seat to yours has been ordered.
- Properly ventilated on at least three sides
- Non-escape and leak-proof
- Lined with absorbent material.
Arrival at the Airport
- Arrive at the check-in counter three hours before departure with your pet comfortable in the suitable carrier. Make sure that you have all documents ready for check-in; otherwise, your pet may not be allowed to travel.
- Your pet is welcome in the cabin in addition to your cabin baggage allowance. If your pet is permitted in an Abu Dhabi lounge, you can accompany it. Access to lounges in all other airports is at the discretion of local rules and policies.
- When boarding, pre-boarding is advisable to allow the crew sufficient time to sort proper handling of your pet for travel.
Arrival at Destination
If Abu Dhabi is your final destination, do all the arrival formalities in compliance with UAE regulations. They also include an inspection by the MOCCAE veterinary officer in the Customs clearance area.
At other destinations, complete all arrival formalities in compliance with the local regulations. For details of compliance, check with the relevant authority at your destination.
Final Destination Abu Dhabi?
The requirements include:
- Import Permit: Apply for an import permit for your pet. Present it no later than 72 hours prior to your flight.
- UAE Health Certificate: Acquire this certificate from a private veterinarian. Have it signed and stamped by a government health public official five days prior to departure. Private veterinarians' stamps are denied as valid document requirements.
- Abu Dhabi Customs Bill of Entry: Apply for the entry, 48 hours prior to your flight at : [email protected]:
- For UAE residents, a copy of your Emirates ID
- For non-residents, a copy of your passport
- Import permit for your pet
- Your mobile number
- A copy of your reservation/ticket
- Weight of the pet, including the carrier
MICCO will check the documents and will send the payment link. Once you make the payment, the Bill of Entry will be mailed to you. Show the UAE Health Certificate and Bill of Entry at the airport; otherwise your pet will not be allowed to travel.
To get final clearance, see the MOCCAE veterinary officer in the Customs area on arrival in Abu Dhabi.
Booking Form
