Pet Travel in Cargo Compartment

In case your pet carrier is more than that accepted for cabin travel, or not meeting the mentioned criteria, your pet will travel in the cargo section of the aircraft. These are the key requirements for cargo transport: 

• Maximum weight: The weight of the pet with a carrier shall not exceed 50 kg.
• Maximum Dimensions: The carrier may not be higher than 75 cm, wider than 75 cm, or longer than 125 cm.
• Carrier Specifications: Only hard-surface carriers are accepted for the safety of your pet. Soft-sided carriers are not accepted in cargo.

For carriage within the cargo compartment, the transportation of pets is subject to a fee and is not included in the free allowance of baggage.

Crate Requirements and Guidelines

The following crate requirements must be met to make your pet's cargo transport experience comfortable and safe:

• Size and comfort: The carrier should be big enough to allow your pet to sleep, stand up, and turn around easily in the crate.
• Ventilation and safety: The crate should be properly ventilated, leakproof and with a lateral locking system.
• Food and Water: The crate should contain food, an automatic water dispenser, and the identification details of the pet for flights longer than 8 hours or layovers exceeding 4 hours.
• Health Conditions: Since October 1st, 2021, cats and dogs with breathing difficulties have not been allowed to fly inside the cargo compartment.

Special Requirements on Some Breeds of Animals

These breeds are not accepted in the cabin because of their special health problems. Following are the pet breeds not accepted in the cabin:

• Cat: Birman, Exotic, Persian, Himalayan, Burmese, Scottish Fold, British Shorthair, etc.
• Dog: - Affenpinscher, Pekingese, Pug of all breeds, Shar Pei, Shih Tzu, Japanese Dog, Lhasa Apso, Tibetan Spaniel, Chow Chow, English Little Spaniel, English Bulldog, French Bulldog, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffon, Bullmastiff, British Mastiff, etc.
• Only dangerous breeds—American Bulldog, Bandog Tosa Inu, Caucasian Shepherd Dog, French Mastiff, Doberman breeds, Rottweiler, and others—are accepted to be carried on in the cargo section if accepted by Turkish Cargo.

Transportation of Multiple Animals in Cargo

Turkish Airlines allows the carrying of several animals in one crate under the following conditions:

• At most three animals, cats/dogs between 10-24 weeks old from the same litter and born from a single mother, may be carried in the same crate.
• Dogs and animals of the same breed weighing at most 14 kg can be carried in a single crate only if they have been accustomed to being together.

Cabin Carriage

The following pets can travel in the cabin: Cats, Dogs, Small songbirds (Budgies, Canaries). The following are the basic criteria for carrying pets in the cabin:

• Weight and Size: The combined weight of the carrier and the pet cannot exceed 8 kg. Carrier should be at max. 23 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 40 cm long.
• Carrier Specifications: Pets are carried in hard-sided carries or specially made soft-sided bags with ventilation holes of at least a diameter of 2.5 cm on at least three sides.

• Seating Restriction: Pets travelling in the cabin are required to remain in an under-seat carrier and are limited to window seats, not available on emergency exits or infant bassinet rows.
• Breeding Restrictions: Cats and dogs with breathing difficulty are accepted subject to the weight and carrier size dimensions.

Pet Transportation Fees and Policies

• Fees: A fee is applied for pet transport and is not included in the free baggage allowance.
• Changes and Refunds: In case of flight changes or if a flight is cancelled, refunds for pet transport will be made automatically.
• Veterinary approval is needed for transporting kittens, puppies under 12 weeks, or puppies that have not been weaned.
