Bhutan officially known as the Kingdom of Bhutan is a landlocked country in the Eastern Himalayas, located between China and India. Bhutan holds the distinction of being the only carbon negative country in the world. This is a monumental title to hold. Think peaceful, untouched landscapes, punctuated only by the sounds of its rich wildlife and gurgling rivers.
Bhutan is also a pet-friendly country to travel to with pets. It has many hotels, restaurants etc. that allow tourists to travel with their four-legged companions. While relocating with pets, it is important to keep the following things in mind-
- The first step is to microchip your pet with a 15 digit ISO compliant pet microchip.
- All pets must have proof of the current rabies vaccination 6-12 months prior to entering the country.
- A rabies titer test must be administered after waiting for a minimum of 30 days after administering the rabies vaccination. All samples must be processed at an approved laboratory.
- All pets must have an import permit issued by the local BAFRA Office.
- A licensed veterinarian in the originating country must complete the Health certificate within 48 hours of entry to Bhutan.
- Internal and External Parasite treatment must be done prior to travel.
- Pets can enter Bhutan via Paro Airport.
- All pets must be free of evidence of disease communicable to humans when examined at the port of entry.
- Bhutan does not publish a list of banned breeds.
