Apart from its stunning beauty, Austria is not only a pet-friendly country but also has some of the most advance animal rights in the world. It has many pet-friendly places all around the country. While travelling with your pets, it is important to keep the following things in mind-
- The first step is to microchip your pet with a 15 digit ISO compliant pet microchip.
- All pets must have proof of the current rabies vaccination administered after a microchip was implanted to enter Austria.
- All pets must have a rabies titer test administered before entering Austria and all samples must be processed at approved laboratories.
- For non-commercial regulations the owner or a legal representative of the owner is traveling with or within 5 days of the pet and the transport does not involve purchase, sale or transfer of ownership.
- A licensed veterinarian in the originating country must complete the non-commercial EU certificate for Austria within 05 days of travel.
- Pets entering by air from non-EU countries must do so at Border Inspection Posts at international airports in Vienna and Linz.
- Pets should enter Austria directly or transit through another EU Member State. If your pet transits through a high-rabies country, then a Transit Declaration will be required stating that your pet has had no contact with rabies-carrying animals and remained secured on the airplane or in the secured area of the airport.
- All domestic dogs and cats must be free of evidence of disease communicable to humans when examined at the port of entry.
- Austria does not have any list of banned breeds.
