KLM allows the transport of pets only on the same flight as their pet parents. In short, both pet parents and pets have to in the same flight. The number of pets the flight permits completely depends on the type of aircraft, destination, and operating airline.

With KLM Airlines, you can book your pet’s reservation, the time you book your tickets and your pet reservation has to be done at least 48 hrs before travelling.

Pets in the cabin

Only small cats and dogs having a weight of not more than 8 kg along their travel kennel be carried in the cabin.

Large cats and dogs and other animal species irrespective of their weight are not allowed as carry-on baggage in the cabin. You are only allowed to carry pets in Economy Class, or when travelling in Business Class within Europe. Carrying your pets in the cabin is not allowed if you fly Premium Comfort Class or Business Class on an intercontinental route. The travel kennel has to be spacious enough for your pet to move inside it as you are not allowed to take your pet out of the travel kennel throughout the journey. As your travel kennel has to fit underneath the seat in front of you, it should not be bigger than 46 x 28 x 24 cm. Only 1 cat or dog per person is allowed in the cabin.

Pets in the cargo hold

Cats and dogs weighing more than 8 kg including the weight of their travel kennel have to be transported in the cargo hold. The KLM Airlines allows you to bring 3 pets in hold. Your pets can also share the same travel kennel provided:

• Each of them is not more than 14kgs of weight.
• They are 2 adult animals of comparable size.
• They are less than 6 months old and of the same litter.

The combined weight of pets and the travel kennel should not exceed 75 kgs of weight. The travel kennel can be a maximum of 122 x 81 x 89 cm on KLM flights, or a maximum of 102 x 69 x 76 cm on KLM Cityhopper flights.

Pets that are not allowed on KLM flights

There are few restrictions on the pets that can be transported on KLM flights. Here are the conditions under which your pet cannot be transported on KLM flights:

• If your pet is other than a dog or a cat;
• The combined weight of pet and travel kennel is more than 75 kg;
• If the travel kennel is larger than 122 x 81 x 89 cm on KLM flights, or larger than 102 x 69 x 76 cm on KLM Cityhopper flights;
• If you and your dog or cat is travelling on a different flight;
• If you need to relocate your dog or cat to an unauthorized country.
