Relocating Pets to Ethiopia
Ethiopia, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, is a landlocked country in the Horn of Africa. Ethiopia offers some of the most extraordinary landscapes anywhere in Africa. From the jagged-peaks of the Simien Mountains, the thick afro-alpine forests of the Bale Mountains, or the kaleidoscopic acid springs of the Danakil Depression, it's one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
Ethiopia is a pet-friendly destination to travel to with your pets. Many hotels and restaurants welcome owners to stay and dine in with pets. While travelling with pets, it is important to keep the following things in mind-
- The first step is to microchip your pet with a 15 digit ISO compliant pet microchip.
- Rabies titer test is mandatory. Your pet must be vaccinated against rabies between 30 days and 12 months prior to entering the country.
- A licensed veterinarian must complete the health certificate for your pet within 5 days of travel.
- An import permit needs to be obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia in advance.
- Your pet must enter Ethiopia via Addis Ababa Bole international airport.
- Pets can enter in the cabin, as checked baggage or air cargo.
- All pets must be free of evidence of disease communicable to humans when examined at the entry airport.
- Ethiopia does not publish a list of banned breeds.
