Delta Airlines Pet Travel Policy
Travelling with your pet on Delta Airlines will be quite smooth if you stick to their guidelines. Here's what you need to know:
In Cabin Luggage
Small pets like dogs, cats, and household birds can travel in the cabin with you on Delta Airlines. Carrying your pet on board is a fee, which you can pay during check-in. Your pet must travel in a comfortable, soft-sided, well-ventilated pet kennel that fits under the seat in front of you. Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old to travel within the USA. When travelling to the United States from another country, your pet must be at least 16 weeks old, and to travel to the European Union they must be 15 weeks old. The kennel should be leak-proof with at least three sides having ventilation openings for domestic flights and four sides for international. Delta suggests a maximum kennel size of 18" x 11" x 11" to accommodate most aircraft.
Seating Restrictions
There are a few seating restrictions when travelling with your pet. This means customers with carry-on pets cannot be seated in bulkhead seats, exit rows, flat-bed or Delta One seats, rows 46-51 on A330-200 aircraft, rows 54-59 on A330-300 aircraft, or centre seats on B757-200 aircraft. That is for the safety and comfort of all passengers on board. The pet and kennel must fit under the seat directly in front of you and the pet must remain in the kennel at all times during flight.
Making Reservations For Your Pet
You should book your pet's travel as early as possible, as Delta has limited capacity on each flight for pets travelling in the cabin. Delta will only accept check-ins on a first-come, first-served basis for reservations for the travel of pets. Be prepared to give your pet's kennel dimensions: length, width, and height, when you call while booking a reservation for your pet. This information is necessary to be able to confirm that your pet's kennel will fit under the seat on the aircraft. Since this is a first-come, first-served service, early booking also allows securing a space for your pet and ensures comfort for both of you in your journey.
Checking In
Upon arrival at the airport, check in with your pet at the Special Service Counter. During check-in, a Delta representative will confirm that your pet and the kennel meet all the requirements for travel. The representative will also collect the required pet fee. Once checked in and with the cabin pet tag, you're good to go for the security checkpoint. At security, you will be asked to remove your pet from the kennel. After going through security, your pet must be inside the kennel at all times while at the airport, except in the designated pet relief areas.
International Traveling
If you are travelling internationally with your pet, there are additional requirements to consider. First of all, get in touch with your destination country's embassy or consulate for details about their requirements for travelling pets. Acquire all necessary vaccinations and documents, including health certificates or proof of vaccination. Check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service for regulations and advisories related to the export or import of animals.
Restrictions
Delta Airlines has a pet travel restriction to and from the following cities/destinations. Pets are not allowed in the cabin on flights to and from Australia, Barbados, Brazil, Colombia, Dubai, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Iceland, Jamaica, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. The household birds are only accepted on domestic U.S. flights except for Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The CDC has placed a temporary ban on allowing adrenaline dogs, including trained service animals, from countries classified as high risk for rabies from entering the United States. While the suspension is still in place, dogs must be healthy and microchipped.
Delta Sky Club
If you visit a Delta Sky Club with your pet, the policies are consistent with those on aircraft. Your pet must be in its kennel at all times while visiting the lounge area. Delta representatives are available to help locate a pet relief area. Most airports have a pet relief area available for customers with pets or trained service animals. This area is available to customers with pets and trained service animals for their pets to relieve themselves before their flights.
Service Animals
Delta Airlines has certain policies on travelling with service animals. These are special-trained animals to help people with physical disabilities. Therefore, service animals can accompany passengers in the cabin of the plane without an extra fee payment. Specific requirements and documentation are required to carry special dogs on the flight.
With these detailed instructions, you and your pet are sure to have a safe and pleasant travel experience with Delta Airlines. Remember to follow all the requirements, get a head start with the preparation, and rest assured that your travel experience will go as smoothly as possible with your four-legged friend.
